Dr. Howard (Jack) West serves as President of Go West Health Care Consulting. After receiving his AB degree summa cum laude in physiologic psychology from Princeton, Dr. West studied at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom on a Fulbright Scholarship and received an M. Phil. in Experimental Biology. He returned to the US to undertake his medical training at Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he earned his MD magna cum laude and conducted neuroscience research as a Howard Hughes Medical Student Fellow. He stayed in Boston for his internship and residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, then moved to Seattle, Washington for his fellowship in medical oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center/University of Washington. He moved to the Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle in late 2002, where he oversees the medical oncology component of the thoracic and genitourinary oncology programs.

Dr. West maintains a strong clinical research focus on lung cancer and prostate cancer. He currently serves as the principal investigator on several clinical trials of chemotherapy and novel agents and has authored numerous peer-reviewed as well as invited publications and book chapters. He has also undergone supplemental training as a Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) Young Investigator and has written and serves as Principal Investigator for several ongoing clinical trials within SWOG, for his own institution, and multi-center pharmaceutical-sponsored efforts. He serves as a reviewer for multiple prominent oncology journals and as a member of the Clinical Program and Bylaws Committees for the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He has been a primary developer and chair of the novel format Pacific Northwest Thoracic Oncology Conference, a national meeting that has doubled in size to 150 since its inception last year.
